Russia and Cuba will sign an agreement on cooperation in the area of peaceful use of nuclear energy, according to a resolution on the Russian government made public on Monday.

The government has vested Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom and the foreign ministry with the authority to hold talks with the Cuban side and sign the agreement on its behalf.

The draft agreement provides for cooperation in fundamental and applied nuclear research, including nuclear medicine, nuclear waste disposal, nuclear and radiation safety, production of isotopes, and training of nuclear sector specialists.

The sides will not exchange information in the nuclear energy sector that constitutes state secret, transfer technologies and equipment for chemical processing of spent nuclear fuel, isotope enrichment of uranium and production of heavy water and highly-enriched uranium.
