President Dilma Rousseff has vetoed Brazil’s 2016 budget guideline bill that prohibits development bank BNDES from financing infrastructure construction investments abroad, state news service Agênica Brasil reported.

According to the president, restricting financing could hurt the competiveness of Brazilian exporters.

“The plan for BNDES funding is strictly linked to exports and under no circumstances does it involve sending funds abroad,” Rousseff was quoted as saying.

Congress is currently evaluating the veto.
