Delegation of Russian Federation Council headed by its speaker Valentina Matvienko is expected to visit Brazil, Federation Council’s press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

During the visit the lawmakers are expected to hold meetings with their Brazilian counterparts to discuss bilateral cooperation in the spheres of trade, culture and economy.

“Russian and Brazilian lawmakers will discuss interparliamentary cooperation both in bilateral and multilateral format — within a framework of BRICS [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa], will touch on cooperation within international platforms,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Matvienko is expected to meet President of the Senate of Brazil Renan Calheiros and President of the Chamber of Deputies Eduardo Cunha.

Russia has recently upped its cooperation with Brazil and other Latin American states. The two countries are actively cooperating in agricultural, defense and space spheres and are discussing cooperation in the sphere of nuclear energy.
