NEW DELHI: Chinese smartphone maker Coolpad has announced that it plans to manufacture one million handsets in India in the first half of 2016.

Coolpad chairman and former CEO Mr Guo Deying said, “In October, we announced an investment of over $300 million in manufacturing, R&D and ID design in India. Keeping up with our commitment of Make in India, we are proud to announce that we will initiate the first phase of our investment by manufacturing one million Coolpad “Made in India” smartphones by the first half of 2016.”

“These smartphone will be manufactured at our Indian partner Videocon`s facility which is situated in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Recently, our leadership team visited Videocon facility to assess and finalise on how much support and technical expertise is required by our partners to manufacture Coolpad smartphones which are known around the world for their cutting edge technology and affordability” added Deying.

Recently, Coolpad had also announced exclusive availability of black variant of its Note 3 smartphone on Amazon.in.

The budget smartphone, launched at Rs 8,999, sports a 5.5-inch HD (720x1280p) display and is powered by 1.3GHz 64-bit Mediatek MT6753 octa-core processor and 3GB RAM. It offers 16GB storage expandable up to 64GB via microSD card. Coolpad Note 3 runs Android 5.1 Lollipop skinned with Cool UI 6.0, and sports and a 5MP front camera.
