PANAJI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Goa chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar to use the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (Brics) summit as an opportunity to showcase Goa as India’s best tourist destination, at a meeting held in Delhi on Tuesday.

At the meeting held to discuss arrangements for the Brics summit, Modi told Parsekar that he had three other cities in mind for the October summit, but has finalized Goa as the venue. Parsekar informed the PM about the arrangements for the summit planned by his government.

The chief minister told reporters that Modi has asked him to submit specific estimates for upgradation of infrastructure in Goa, which would be required for the Brics summit. Parsekar will hold meetings with various government departments to direct them to make specific demands for funds from the Centre to upgrade infrastructure. “On two to three instances, the PM has told me to take the Brics summit as an opportunity to showcase Goa as a tourist destination,” Parsekar said.

Around 800 delegates are expected to participate in the summit.
