WASHINGTON, December 06. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian-US energy cooperation will be discussed in Washington, D.C. on Friday by Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak and US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz. They will hold a regular meeting of the Energy Working Group of the US-Russian Bilateral Presidential Commission, Russian minister’s spokesperson Olga Golant told Itar-Tass.

“The meeting will focus on world’s energy development, global energy security,” Golant said. “We are also interested in the American experience in the state policy of improving energy efficiency in the public sector of the economy, including energy service contracts, as well as modern technology development.”

The spokesperson added that the meeting of the Energy Working Group will also discuss joint energy projects of the two countries’ companies, in particular, a hydrocarbon production project of Rosneft and Exxon Mobil on the shelf of the Kara Sea and Black Sea, as well as the project for the construction of a power equipment plant in Russia with the participation of General Electric.

“At the meeting that will first be held with a limited number of participants and then at full strength with the participation of co-chairs of the sub-groups, the sides intends to adjust the plans, discuss what has been achieved and what we want to achieve in the near term,” Golant said. She added that a joint statement was planned to be signed at the meeting.

Along with that, Novak is scheduled to meet with American energy experts at various venues in Washington. In particular, he will speak at a seminar on the Russian and world economy development forecast until 2040 and will also hold discussions with representatives of the US business community in the Washington-based Brookings Institution. In addition, on Saturday Novak intends to visit a shale gas field in Pennsylvania. “In Russia, the shale gas production technology is well known. But we are interested in the American experience, especially in matters related to the environmental friendliness of this production,” the Russian minister’s spokesperson said.
