For the first time in South Africa’s history, the cost of fuel will be more than R14 per litre.

Petrol increases by 36 cents per litre at midnight while diesel will rise by between 27 and 28 cents per litre.

The South African Petroleum Retailers Association’s Gerrie Lewis says consumers will be hard pressed to deal with the latest rise at the pumps.

“The consumer cannot afford to buy fuel, and places like Pick n Pay, who deliver products, cannot afford it either. So it’s pushed down to the consumer who cannot buy food or fuel.”
