Russian industry boosted export of ferrous metals 5% year-on-year to 9.304 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2014 and reported a decline in steel pipes import from far-abroad countries 15% to 88,400 tonnes worth $190,8 million, says the report of the Federal Customs Service (FCS).
In monetary terms, ferrous metals export insignificantly increased by 0.75% to $4.92 billion. In particular, supplies to far-abroad countries went up 5.4% to 7.99 million tonnes in an amount of $4.16 billion, while export to CIS states grew 2.6% to 1.30 million tonnes worth $760.2 million (a 16% decline in monetary terms).
Total ferrous metals import in January – March 2014 dropped 14.8% to 1.085 million tonnes, whereas import of steel pipes shrank 29.7% to 167,000 tonnes in year-on-year comparison. In monetary terms, they contracted 14.2% to $1.01 billion and 33.6% to $282.3 million respectively.
According to the FCS, amid the general decline of steel pipes import, supplies from far-abroad countries dipped 15%, imports from the CIS 41.2% down to 78,700 tonnes worth $91.5 million.
