Brazil will host, on the 19th and 20th of March, the international conference on Intellectual Property (IP) and Innovations in the Information Technology and Communications Industry (TIC). The event is to have discussions on the advancements in research, development and innovation. The meeting is open for subscriptions and will take place in the Center for Conventions of the Rio de Janeiro Industries Federation – Centro de Convenções da Federação das Indústrias do Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) -, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Entrepreneurs, public administrators, researchers, jurists, legislative officers and technicians from Brazil and abroad will partake in the meeting.

The bolstering of research and development (R&D) activities in emerging economies, especially in Brazil and the management of PI in open innovation platforms are among the topics which are to be discussed by the lecturers. The event is also intended to approach topics such as the contrasting views on PI management, challenges in establishing collaboration agreements in the field, the field’s technologies, free software and open source as models for businesses and the Brazilian strategy on public policies for Information Technology and Communications (TIC) and innovation.

The discussion also aims at providing subsidies to the elaboration of new policies in the sector. The Brazilian government has made investments by means of initiatives such as the Strategic Program of Software and Information Technology Services (TI Maior – Major IT). The conference is organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), by the World Organization of Intellectual Property (Ompi), by the National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI, in Portuguese) and by the Firjan System.
