India and Russia hold high-level consultations on Afghanistan’s political, security, and humanitarian challenges following the Taliban’s interim government announcement.
The deliberations at the meeting chaired by PM Modi focused on the situation in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s claim that it had complete control of Afghanistan.
Brics members, Russia and China, are among the very few countries that are currently engaging the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat said, “Yes, the timeline certainly surprised us because we were anticipating this thing happening a couple of months down the line but it is much the same, the same Taliban which was there 20 years ago.”
India took a veiled dig at Pakistan over cross-border terrorism and said that activities of state-supported terrorist groups like LeT and JeM threaten peace.
