Annual Report on BRICS Cooperation and Global Governance (2024): Greater BRICS Economic and Trade Cooperation Amid Trade Conflicts
Abstract
Amid profound changes in the international landscape, the acceleration of the once-in-a-century transformation of the world, and the expansion of BRICS membership, the BRICS+ mechanism continues to inject stability and positive momentum into a world marked by turbulence and uncertainty. Today, global trade conflicts are escalating, with unilateralism, protectionism, and geopolitical rivalry intertwined, prompting a deep reshaping of the international economic and trade order. Unilateral tariff increases by the United States have intensified the fragmentation of global industrial chains and heightened trade tensions. In this context, how should emerging markets and developing countries promote global economic governance? How can Greater BRICS strengthen and consolidate mechanisms for economic, trade and financial cooperation? How can countries jointly uphold a rules-based multilateral trading system? Addressing these questions, the Annual Report on BRICS Cooperation and Global Governance 2024 focuses on Greater BRICS economic and trade cooperation in the context of trade conflicts, exploring how BRICS countries can respond to the headwinds of globalization through institutional innovation, technological collaboration, and platform-building, and providing theoretical support and practical reference for reconstructing an inclusive global economic order.
