NEW DELHI: India is engaged in trade talks with the United States, an Indian government source with knowledge of the discussions said on Friday, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order imposing a 25% tariff on New Delhi’s exports.

India’s $86.5 bn in exports to US could be significantly impacted but it is expected to remain a preferred country for manufacturing.
US President Trump has signed an order for new tariffs to come into effect on August 7. Trump also raised duties on Canada from 25% to 35%, with those levies coming into effect on Friday.
The United States has stated that it cannot reach a trade agreement with India overnight due to long-standing disagreements.
