• J-KOM director-general Mohd Hisyamuddin Ghazali said Malaysia’s BRICS partner status opens wider trade opportunities with member countries representing more than half of the world’s population and purchasing power.
• He said the partnership allows Malaysia to adopt a “middle path” without depending on or aligning itself with any major global power.
• Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was scheduled to deliver a National Statement at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi on inclusive global growth and cooperation among BRICS member and partner countries.
• Mohd Hisyamuddin said Malaysia’s absence from a group photograph with the 11 BRICS heads of state does not affect its role or official recognition as a BRICS partner.
• He said Malaysia remains directly involved in the trade sector and can build close ties with leaders of Russia, Iran, Brazil and South Africa.
• Separately, J-KOM, the Information Department (JAPEN) and the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) will collaborate to strengthen government information delivery to grassroots communities.
