Overview
Background and role of the BRICS Universities League.
During the International Conference on BRICS Studies hosted by Fudan University in July 2013, 10 universities from BRICS countries announced the initiative to establish the BRICS Universities League, subsequently included in official BRICS Summit documents. To implement Article 63 of the “7th BRICS Summit Ufa Declaration”, which supports the initiative to establish BRICS Universities League, “Beijing Consensus” was declared at BRICS University President Forum held in Beijing Normal University on October 18th 2015, officially announcing the establishment of the BRICS UL.
BRICS UL shall act as a platform for bilateral and multilateral exchanges between universities in BRICS countries, as an important mechanism for promoting education cooperation and cultural exchanges between BRICS countries, and also as an international think tank supporting policy research in BRICS countries. From January 2019, Fudan University shall serve as the BRICS UL Secretariat to further promote the work of the BRICS UL. The specific work is undertaken by the Center for BRICS Studies, FDDI.
