Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi, marking his first visit to India in about seven years.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders of Brazil, South Africa, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia and other countries are expected to attend.
Xi and Putin are scheduled to hold separate bilateral meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The summit will focus on multilateral cooperation, global governance representation, reforms in international financial institutions, trade and investment ties, sustainable development and climate.
Discussions are expected on strengthening trade, payment systems, science and technology cooperation, and coordination on key international issues.
BRICS Plus sessions will involve member countries, partner countries, invited nations and international organizations, with the summit expected to conclude with the New Delhi Declaration.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will participate and highlight the need to reform the UN Security Council and other multilateral institutions.
India has deployed extensive security arrangements in New Delhi, including about 15,000 police personnel and 500 CCTV cameras.
