A delegation from Indonesia sang the title track from superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ at the banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu in honour of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who is the chief guest for this year’s Republic Day celebrations. The delegation that performed the song at Rashtrapati Bhavan included senior Indonesian ministers.
The Indonesian President is on his first State Visit to India. On Saturday, he met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who took him on a tour of the new Parliament building.
Subianto held discussions with Birla on India’s rich parliamentary system and appreciated the architecture of the Parliament House. Birla presented Subianto with a copy of the Constitution and a replica of the Parliament House.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat in a statement said that ties between India and Indonesia, influenced by the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, date back ancient times and are reflected in cultural and civilisational relations which have grown stronger over time.
President Murmu Welcomes Indonesian President
President Droupadi Murmu welcomed President Subianto on his first State Visit to India and said that civilisational ties between India and Indonesia go back thousands of years. She added that values of pluralism, inclusiveness and rule of law are common to both countries and these shared values have given direction to our contemporary relations.
President Murmu said that Indonesia is a key pillar of India’s ‘Act East’ policy and Indo-Pacific Vision.
“The President said that as leading members of the Global South, India and Indonesia cooperate closely on various multilateral platforms including the G-20 and also through ASEAN. She also congratulated Indonesia for joining BRICS as a permanent member,” a press statement read.
It added that both leaders agreed that as Comprehensive Strategic Partners, India and Indonesia are expanding cooperation in several new fields, which will be further strengthened by this visit.
