India’s Ministry of Culture is hosting the BRICS Culture Working Group and Culture Ministers’ meeting in Bhopal from August 5 to 8, 2026, under India’s BRICS presidency.
Officials will discuss policy drafts and working papers on August 5 and 6, while culture ministers and deputy ministers will finalize joint consensus on August 7 and 8.
India proposed developing a shared BRICS digital platform for artist information, creative industry data, manuscript collections, and documentation of architectural heritage.
India also proposed promoting multinational and joint UNESCO nominations, including Project Monsoon, Buddhist heritage, and shared temple architecture.
The programme includes a BRICS Cultural Festival, exhibitions, performances by delegations from several countries, and a BRICS Peace Song featuring musical traditions from multiple nations.
After the ministerial meeting, delegations will visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sanchi, with an optional Bhimbetka rock shelters visit scheduled for August 9.
The event also highlights Madhya Pradesh’s cultural heritage through performances, tribal culture showcases, heritage walks, local cuisine, and exhibitions.
